Article 409 Industrial Control Panels

Article 409 covers industrial control panels that are intended for general use and that operate at 1000 volts or less. This Article addresses both AC and DC applications. A reference to understand what this Article addresses is UL 508A standard for Industrial Control Panels. Keep in mind that this Article does not include a requirement that all industrial control panels must be listed. Because of this lack of a listing requirement the definition for the term “industrial control panel” is very important to understand when determining what equipment is and is not covered by Article 409.
