General Requirements for Electrical Installations

The general requirements that are found in Article 110 of the electrical code is where the user of the electrical code will find all of those requirements that apply to all electrical installations including but not limited to the following:

  • Examination and approval of conductors and equipment
  • Installation and use of conductors and equipment
  • Access to electrical equipment
  • Spaces about electrical equipment
  • Enclosures intended for personnel entry
  • Tunnel installations

There are 5 parts within this Article including the following:

  • Part I General
  • Part II 1000 Volts, Nominal, or Less
  • Part III Over 1000 Volts
  • Part IV Tunnel Installations
  • Part V Manholes and Other Electrical Enclosures Intended for Personnel EntryAs highlighted in 90.3, Chapter 1 applies generally.

Part II addresses low voltage applications:
