210.2 Reconditioned Equipment

This section has the requirements for branch circuit equipment reconditioning.  This section prohibits the reconditioning of GFCIs and AFCIs.

Related NFPA 70 information are as follows:

100 Ground-Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI)

100 Arc-Fault Circuit Interrupter (AFCI)

NFPA 70-2023 Changes

The requirements found in 210.15, Reconditioned Equipment, are being relocated to section 210.2 as part of a code wide change. Almost all articles that contain reconditioned equipment requirements are relocating those requirements to Section 210.2.

The requirements around reconditioned equipment found in Article 210 focus on the reconditioning of ground-fault circuit-interrupters and arc-fault circuit-interrupters, both of which are not permitted to be reconditioned.  Keep in mind that these technologies are found in packages such as circuit breakers, receptacles, and relays.  These are addressed in other areas of the NEC and are also not permitted to be reconditioned.  By placing this in Article 210 reconditioning is addressed for these technologies regardless of the “container”.
